HATAITAI AND ROSENEATH

NEW SCHOOL WANTED,

Mr. F. W. Ward presided over a committee meeting of the members of 'the Hataitai and Roseneath Ratepayers' Association held in tho Roseneath Schoolroom last evening. The. meeting was called to discuss important matters of interest to both districts, the chief of Which was the question of tho overcrowded state of tho public schools in the district. Members present agreed that thero was a community of interest between the two districts, and > that they would co-operate on .all questions for the general good of tho district. The chairman, in referring to the overcrowded schools, stated that the Roseneath "School scholars on .the. roll, 'and that'there was only accommodation provided for 175 scholars, and that it was , impossible .for the staff to do justice. to the scholars under such conditions. Tho speaker, also pointed out that tho school was situated at the extreme northern part of tho district, and that, it was necessary for scholars living at the southern end to come long distances to school. ' r Mr., Arcus outlined the agitation that had been made at Hataitai for sohool accommodation in that district, pointing out that there wore 300 children requiring school accommodation at the present time. The general opinion expressed by members was that the Education De? partment should immediately purchase a site and erect , a school that would meet the requirements of the district. 'A resolution was'subsequently -passed that a deputation wait upon the Ministor of Education on Friday, June 12, to lay the claims of the district bofore him..

A lively discussion took place on tho necessity for a motor-bus service that would suit both districts, and the proposed now road to Roseneath. A resolution was' adopted approving of the formation of the road, members expressing the opinion/that if would givo residents of the districts a bettor access to the city,.at the same time relieving tho congestion,of the tunnol.
