Early tuis morning the watchman heard someone inaido the building, lie fastened the door and went to obtain. assistance, Hs had wily proceeded a few yards When a man., who bad evidently been watching his. movements, fired a revoivor, tho bullet passing through the watchniaii's cheek, and striking a secOlid ni-aji whs was standing on the footpath, knocking out three of his teeth. The watchman fired three shots at- his. assailant, who su-ccecdw! in escaping. Meanwhile, the safe-breaker, whs lift-d been looked inside, aianned at the firing, broke tho fanlight, reached the back of the building,' descended by tho firo escape, and got atrsy. Explosives were found in tho _ keyhole of the safe, but nothing was missing.
