A COMPROMISE AMENDMENT. By Telegraph—Press Areooiation-OopyrluM' Washington, June 7. Senator Simmons has drawn up a compromise amendment to the Tolls Exemption Bill which is likely to receive considerable Republican support. Tho amendment provides that the passago- of the Tolls Bill shall not bo held as a waiver or relinquishment of any right the United States may have with Britain under the treaty ratified in November, 1901, or otherwise to exempt United States vessels or citizens from tlio_ payment of tolls, or the waiving or impairing of tho Unittd States' right under tho said treaty with respect, to sovereignty over the canal. It is expected that a vote on the nieasuro will now be reached on Monday.
