'At the annual meeting of the Hawke's Bay Licensing Committee to-day, all liconsea were renewed with tho oxcoption of ono which was extended for bis months pending tho completion of repairs and alterations. The police report was favourable except in tho case of a country hotel where, it ivaa alleged, Sunday trading and gambling for drinks were carried on. The licensee "was named. The committee called attention.to the need of .better night attendance at local hotels,t and .pointed out to licensees their dubks as innkeepers, which compelled thorn to provide bed and board for travellers at any hour of the day or night; • Cases had been brought under notice where..'people'- called 'soon' after tho ordinary'meal - hour ! aM were- told that tho' meal was over and they could not .be supplied. Mention was also raado of their duty to attend to travellers arriving late, but, in some of the hotels in Hastings, this was not done. The duties-, of tho licensee did not end vith the closing of tho bar.
