MORE TREES
" REQUEST FROM ISLAND BAY. A reputation from the Island BayMunicipal Electors' Association waited on the Reserves Committee of the City Council yesterday regarding the possible beautification of their suburb by tree-planting in certain localities. Mr. E. J. Coliey said the deputation wished to find out from tho -committee what_ prospect there was of any treeplanting being dono by the City Council at Island Hay this year. They'asked on behalf of the association that"Mr.'Glen, tlio superintendent of reserves, should 'conic out to Island Bay in order that they might-show him areas which they considered suitablo for. tree-planting.' Mr. Glen could then report to tho committee. Tho places they had thought of suggesting were Dorwent Street, Reef Street, and tho area formerly occupied by tho Firo Brigade house. The association would bo ready to help by arranging working bees. '.. ' The chairman; Or cash? Mr. .Coliey: We havo no cash, but we ■7iavo a promise of 500 trees. In. reply to Councillor Luckie, Mr. Coliey said that he could not say whether that_ number would bo sufficient for their requirements for this year. Mr. W. H.':Potts asked on-,behalf of tho School Committee for_ a small .'parcel of trees to lib planted in the schoolgrounds. Those planted last year were looking remarkably well; ond-.tho children took an interest ifir.tli.env-''- "!\ The committee agreed that Mr. Glen should go out to Island Bay to meet representatives of the association, and that ho should report upon the suggestions mado to him.
