FOR COOKS & STEWARDS INCREASED WAGES , A new set. of demands was yesterday filed li,v the; Federated Cooks' and Stewards' Union of New iieal/md, in view of the expiration of tho Arbitration Court award oit June 28. In the. new demands, which come before tho Conciliation Council on Thursday stowing. a clause is included askkig for pre* fei-'imca to those m-eiiibers of the union who are aot more than threo months in arrears in their contributions. The demands shew an increase, in wages mi tlio present -ward, based generally on. the "increases granted in other departments. The dispute is solely between the 11-111011 and the Union -Steam Ship Company, as another award, which it is intended to renew later, covers tiro smaller owners... A Dominion award is wanted. Wages constitute tho most important part of the.demands, and the following rates are asked for;-—•-Galley Workers. —Vancouver and I 'Frisco Service.: Chefs, £18 per month; i second cooks, £11; extra- second cooks, I £9; third, cooks, £S; extra third cooks, £7 10s.;' -scullerymen, &7 j baker, £-12 10s.; second baker, £9 10s.; third ! baker, £7: butcher, £10; second kit-clier, £'7 10s.; third butcher, £7; steerage cook, £10; second steerage cook, £8; third steerage cook, £7; eftsw cooks £9; assistant crew cook, £7.
