J MOTHER ILL-TREATS HER CHILD. (Br Toldrraoli.—Pr<?s Assbcintion.) Invercarglli, Juno 1. Before Mr. Hntchison, S.M.. at Riverton to-day, a married woman, Nellie M'Creath, was. charged that, being the mother and having the' custody qf Gladys M'Creath, aged 41 years, slio did wilfully ill-treat tho child in a manner likely to cause it unnecessary suffering. From tho evidence it appears that on May 15 the attention of a constable was directed to tho child, and on oxamination ho found it a mass of bruises from head to heel, with some abrasions and marks about tho face. Tho littlo ono was taken to a doctor, who, upon oxamination, described it as a shocking caao. The woman was fined £10 and expenses, or in default two months' imprisonment with liard labour. Tho custody of tho child was taken from her.
