MILITARY APPOINTMENTS
NEW CHIEF OF STAFF. A re-arrangement qi staff appointments at General Hoadqunrlers, Kew Zealand Military Forfiesj rendered necessary by the return to England s'uortlv. of Colonel E. S. Eeard, Director of Staff Duties and Mititory UVainnig, and Lieutonarit-Coloiiei the Bon, It. JJ. Collins, D.5.0., Adjutaut-Gcne.-al to the Forces, is announced. Coloiiel Heard leaves for England oil July 10.. His appointment to New Zealand dates fro® October 14, 1910. Lieutenant-Colonel Collins's appointment dates from November 1, 1912.--Colonel Hoard will be succeeded by Lieutenant-Colonel W. G. Brait-hwaitc, who is at present General Staff Offiwr in tho Auckland Military District, and Lieutenant-Colonel Coffin.® will be succeeded by Colonel B. TV, 0. Chaytor, officer commanding the Wellingtoii District (with headqilftrtets at Palmerston North). No announcement has as yet been made as to Colonel Braithwaite's and Colonel Chsytor's succossors, .but it is believed that Major F. B. Johnston, of tho Indian Army (» ion of 'the Hon. C. J. Joluiston, M.L.C.), who is at present an a year's furlough in New Zealand,., lias been offered Mia temporary command of the Wellington district while in New Zftalaiid. The acceptance of the appointment, it is understood, is siibject to tlio approval of the War O®W. Captain C. E. Macdonald (Itayal Warwickshire Eegiment), who is at present en route to.
