SMALL REQUESTS

ISLAND BAY MAKES AN APPEAL. Tho Island Bay Municipal Electors' Association sent a deputation to the City Council last night to make several requests. . Mr. C. C. Odlin said that there was one matter not included in tho loan proposals— the completion of the culvert from Cornwall Street to Deo Street. Thoy felt .that it was time that this was done, as it was one of tho most important works required in tho district. Tho upkeop' of the open drain, which must have been a serious tax, would bo, saved, and there was also tho question of the health of tho people. Mr. G. A. Chisholm urged the erection of a band rotunda at Island Bay. Ho thought that tho rotundu at present in front of the City Fire Brigade Station might bo removed to Island Bay. At present, he said, it was in the road of the fire brigade. Tram duplication to enable residents to get to town quicker was also a matter urgently reeded. The insertion of loops did not meet with the approval of Island Bay residents. The Mayor explained that the £500 for proposed loops was not money included in the loan proposals. The Tramway Board were also considering tho matter brought up by the deputation. With regard to the culvert, whether it was included in the loan proposals or not, a large sum would be spent on it this year.
