FIRE PREVENTION & ESCAPES
CITY COUNCIL MOVING. Two recommendations of importance in viow of recent happenings were made to tho City Council last night hy the Firo Brigade Committee and adopted. They were :— "That a full report be obtained on tho system at present in force in connection with tho prevention of fire, inspection of firo escapes, and dangerous goods stored in the city," and "That a fire alarm cabinet, with amplo provision for future private fire alarm connections, bo installed at the Central Fire Station, at an approximate cost of £50, as recommended .by tho Fire Brigade Superintendent."/ An important recommendation was also made to the council by the Public Health Committee, as- follows:— "That tho by-law relating to lire protection in private hotels, boardinghoiises, etc., be amended in the direction .of malting the by-law apply" to buildings containing loss rooms than specified fit present." The existing bylaw applies.only to hotels, boardinghouses, restaurants, or tenement houses containing more than HO bedrooms Tho recommendation was carried.
