ORIENTAL BAY QUARRY SITE

AS RECREATION GROUND. A public meeting of Oriental and Roscneath ratepayers was hojd in the Oriental Bay Kiosk last evening. The business before the meeting was the question of improving the quarry which adjoins the tea kiosk site, and to form a recreation "round. Mr. T. \V. Ward presided over a fair attendance of ratepayers from both districts. Mr. AYavd said-that the proposal was to obtain a lease of the quarry from ■the City Council said that it could be beautified and formed ! into a small ground for bowling, tennis, and croquet. ".Mr. T. Shields gave a resume of the work that had been done for the past 20 years by residents of the „district. They had, he stated, made big endeavours .to prevent the hay from being spoiled in any way. He announced his willingness to bo associated with the movement to improve the quarry site.

Other sneakers were Messrs. Beere, Tiedniond. Cashman, and S. S. Williams. They spoke in a strain similar to proceiling sneakers and expressed - the opinion that the work of quarrying sliould he stopped. Tt was considered that the quarry as it stood at present was an eyesore.

A motion was carried unanimously that a letter bo sent to Ilio City Council askim* it to -eceive a deputation with a view to obtaining a lease of the quarry for the purpose of beautifying it and forming :i recreation ground.' Messrs. Williams, Kcdmond, and Wiml wore appointed .':s spokesmen of this deputation.
