RACING APPEAL.
THE MANTJRERE—HAREXOA CASE. (By Tolearauh.— Vsbi& Association.) Chrlstchurcli, May 26. Tho Racing Conference dismissed tho appeal of T. vVilson, owner of 'Manurere and adjudged tho horso Harenoa winner of the Electric Handicap at To Aroha on March 9. . The ground of dismissal was that the horso was trained by a person not holding a trainer's license. ' Tho judgment says:—"Tho material facts in tho case are as follow:—T. Wilson, owner of Mauurere, claims to be tho owner-trainer of such horse. ,At tho To Aroha Jockey Club's meeting, held on March 9, 1914, the said horse ran first in tho Electric Handicap, and was entered for such race as being owned and trained by T. Wlison.. Tlio owned lives at To Akau, about twentylive milos from Hamilton, whero tho horso wa3 kept in' a paddock in charge of ono W. Wilson, a licensed jockey, employed hj tho owner,.at a weekly wage of 25.5., tho owner providing feed and paying all oxpenses. W. Wilson worked the horso under the owner's inntructions, such instructions being somo times personally given by tho owner, find at other times given through his agent, who resided at Hamilton. Tho stewards of tho To Aroha Jockey Club dismissed tho protest lodged by J. Garry, ownor of tho horso Harenoa, who ran second to Manurcre, tho grounds of such protest being that Manuroro was trained by an unlicensed trainer. Tho appeal against this decision ivas uphold by tho Auckland District Com-, initteo. and T. Wilson, owner of Mfcnurc;'o, lodged tho appeal now before us njjninst the Auckland District Coramittre's decision. Having heard the parties, and considered all tho circumstances, in our opinion T. Wilson, (uvner-trninor of Mannroro, did ■ not carp - 'out tho personal supervision of the training of such horse. Wo aro of opinion that tho positiou of ownertrainer should be more clearly defined in tho Ruloa of Racing. Wo also re-
Raid Part XXI, Rulo 2, m a special warning to owner-trniners and others against employing •to manage their stables any person who has ridden or trained far hire. Such person should, under tho rules, apply for a license. Wo direct- the attention of tho Auckland District Committee to tho fact that T. \Vilsou, employer of AY. Wilson, does not appear to have complied with tho provisions of Part XXI, Rulo i, of tho Rules of Racing. Tho appeal of T. Wilson is hereby dismissed. 'Clio liorso Harenoa is now adjudged .winner of tho Electric Handicap, run 'at tho To Aroha Jockey Club's meeting on' May 0, 10W. Wo direct that tho F deposit in. this caso he 'refunded.
