Besides materially increa*ing the output, it is expocted that tba new plant will increase the lifo ot the mine. WAITAJfGI. The mine manajer of the Waitangi Consolidated reports as follows on the opera-1 tion-3 of the past, week:— No. 4 level:. Driving west, on the main reef a. further difituuee of 4 feet was driven, making a- lotul distance from the main I crosscut 137.feet. The reef still looks well, and carries sood minerals. No. % rise caot is now completed, and everything i«' ready for passing quaVU from No. 3 level to No. 4 level. A start will be made as soon as possible to continue this riso from No. 3 level to No. 2 level; if these two levels were connected it wotil dopen up all the levels from No. 1 level to No. 4. lovel. This would enable us to pass tlie ore direct to the loy; level and would t«vo c. lot of unnecessary handling. No. 2 level cl'ose-cutting through the reef is now going on £0 t'edt west of No. 1 crosscut. ■ A start has been made iu No. 1 crosscut to break quartz; also two men are now opening out on the hanging wall of the reef 60 feet cast of No. 2 crosseut. A sample of ore was taken for a v.idth of 4 feet and gave the assay voice of £2 lis.' per ton; aleo a picked cample from this place gave the assay value of £19 13s. 6d. per. tan. A third sample was token out from hanging wall portion close to No. 1 crosscut, ami gave the assay value of £2 10s. Bd. per ton.
BOSS GOLDF.IELDS. The secretary of the Boss Goldlieldo has received the following advice:— Mino.-Ordinary work was resumed in the foccs underground after the long stoppage on Monday, May 4. with three parties of men. which has since been increased to five parties on each shift, and they will be further increased'when suitable hands can bo obtained. Sixth Level Workings.—No. 2.east drive has been driven to 56 feet from the opening and stopped for the present, and this party has commenced to drive No. 6 south, which has'been driven 12 feet in payable wash. One party is blocking in No. 3 South, one in No. 2 South, both in payable wash, and one party in No. 1 South, in wash of lower value. There is no change to report as regards the condition of the power elation, races, and tunnels, transmission lino, and plant and mine machinery.
