ASSISTING THE UNEMPLOYED

One hundred and ninety-one men were assisted by the Labour Department in Wellington during last, montli, and of this number 58 wero married men and 133 single. One hundred and ciglity-two were sent to private employment and nine to Government works. The trades of thoso assisted wcro as followßricklayers, 3; carpenters and joiners, 0; drivers, 3; farm hands, 18; gardeners, 2; hotel workers, 15; miners, 21': miscellaneous, 14; labourers, 110. Further batches of men have boon dispatched to railway and roadmaking work since tho above figures wcro compiled. Altogether. '1(57 men, witli 383 dependents, were assisted throughout the Dominion. Of this number Ml were married. In the local women's branch 53 domestics were assisted, and a total of 178 in tlu; different branches throughout tho Dominion.
