SHEEP-STEALING CASE " FINE OF £50. Chrlstchurch, May 20. Charles Richard Craythome, convicted of tho theft of two sheep, appeared for sentence in tho Supreme Court. Tho Crown suggested that tho neighbours had lost 400 sheep, and while l tho prisoner was fftfming at Motunau sheep wore missed. Mr. Justico Denniston said he was not entitlod to treat tho cnso as more than the theft of two sheep. Ho could not directly punish him for an offenco of which no had not been convicted. Prisoner was lined £50. IRREGULAR SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION. Auckland, May 20.
As a result of protests made to tho Auckland Education Board five school committee elections have - been declared null and void owing to various irregularities. - Comment was inado by board members on tho loose methods adopted at these elections generally and the opinion was expressed that a better method of electing committees should be adopted. CHARCE OF MANSLAUGHTER. Auckland, May 20. ' Tho hearing of the charge of manslaughter against George Fredk. Eeles motorman of the tram-car by which Michael Rohan was knocked down and fatally injured, on April 30, was commenced in the Police Court to-day. Deceased was employed by tho Tramway Company, antl was working as a surfaceman at the timo of tho fatality The hearing was adjourned. LETTER-SORTER'S CRIME. Auckland, May 20! Norman Tremaili, aged 21 years, a lettcraorter at Auckland, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on a charge of.stealing letters from the I'ost Office, ono of which contained money. The theft was discovered through tho accused forwarding tho missing postal notes for Tattersall sweep tickets. THE AUCKLAND SENSATION. . Auckland, May 20. Tlio condition of Evelyn Tynan, whose father is in custody on a charge of attempting to murder her, was slightly improved to-night, though she was still in a very low, condition. The wound.? in tho child's-neck did not extend to any of the vital blood-vessels, and there is somo hope that. she will recover. COMPENSATION TO A WORKMAN. Tlmaru, May 19. Mr. Justice Stringer heard hero to-, day a claim for compensation by a workman against a Waiinate contractor. While working for the defendant in May,, 1913, removing a building, the complainant suffered a fracture of tlio hip through a wall being blown over on him.- He had not recovered tho uso of his leg, and his earning power was reduced from 375. to 20s. a week. He had received' £27 compensation up to September. The Court made an order for 17s. a week.
