SHEARING SHED HANDS

A SET OF DEMANDS. Tho Shearers'- Conference, which recently sat in Wellington, has drawn up demand's on behalf of shed hands to be submitted to the employers. Following aro the more important of the demands :— That not loss than £2 10s. per week and found shall bo paid to shed hands, irrespective of ago. The employer dur-. ing such employment shall provide employees with good and sufficient hut accommodation, cooking, washing, and table utensils, wood, and water free of charge, and will also provide sanitary conveniences. Tho employer, at his own cost, shall provido the employoo with good and sufficient rations, cooked by a competent cook, to bo engaged and remunerated by the employer. No shed hand shall be compelled to do other than shod work. No picker-up shall have more than fire shearers to attend to.

Rates' for Pressors.—Woolprcssors shall recoivo not less than £3 per week and found, where under ton shearers are employed; and when ten or more aro employed Jie remuneration shall bo Is. Gu. per bale of 31cwt., or 6d. per cwt., and wAcn pressing with screw or similar presses, 7d. per cwt. Where- pressing is eone by contract, all men engaged at the press shall receive equal payment. Where pressers do branding amf stacking they shall be paid extra. All woolpressos shall he kept in good working order by the employer.

Rates for Cooks.—Cooks shall be paid as follow: For cooking for under 20 men, tho wages shall ho not .less-than £3 10s. por wcok; for 20 men and up to 30, not less than £4 10s. per' week; and for over 30 men not less than £5 10s. per week. Cooks' assistants shall recoivo not less than £2 10s. per week.
