FASHIONS FOR GIRLS.
The two or three tier effect is a noticeable feature with tho young girls' dance frocks, states a Sydney writer in the "Herald." Softest lace is manipulated for, this purpose : in other instances the tiers arc carried out in very soft pleated, cream net, the same fabric being used for tho fichu-liko bodice, tiny frills finishing the neck opening. The sleeves are of ninon, and are also finished with the cream pleated net aU the edge. The sash or the waist swathing is carried out in a becoming shade, to suit the wearer, the touch of colour giving the necessary finish to such a dainty creation. In the younger children's party frocks we cannot easily over-estiniato tho value of fine needlework and dainty materials. A very pretty little frock for a tiny maiden is a light "Dolly Varden" desicn in tho smallest roses and forget-me-nots on a groundwork of the palest blue. The collar is in white chiffon, with a narrow hemstitched border, carriod out in tho turn-down "Bvronic" style, and fastened with a small knot of black velvet. A softly-tied sash of pale blue crepe de chine is finished with a hunch of pink rosebudn thrust into the folds of the sash in front. For everyday wear many of the frocks for maids are delightful. For n schoolgirl nothing is more- serviceable than fine navy serge; for a simple little frock was fashioned out of this useful material. A becoming breadth was given to the shoulders by an arrangement of buttons and buttonholes on each side of he front of tho bodice. The neck opening wns in the fashionable V--shapo, and was edged with a narrow strio of dark fur, tho same trimming being used on the edge of the long sleeves. A sash of soft black charmeuso satin was tied in front, tho ends being knotted and fringed. Tho Russian blouse effect is becoming style to the schoolgirl, and deep armholo quite increasing the smartnoss of the frock. Tho bolero is also n fcaturo noticed in girls' garments. Other details of the prevailing fashion are developed in plaid, combined with plain material and vice-versa.
