EXCAVATIONS AT RHODES. By Tolegraph—Press Association—Copyrijht Athens, May 12. Italian excavations at Rhodes have resulted in seventy cases of ancient relics'of great importance being shipped to Rome. Soldiers are guarding the excavations. The tomb of General Aristomenes has been discovered. The Island of Rhodes, in the Aegean, was in the fourth century B.C. a leading maritime and commercial State, and noted fofr its maritime laws and .-is a ccntro of art and oratory. Aristomenes, who lived in the seventh century n.c., wag the national hero in the war against Sparta. ITo ivas surprised in Eira, the kst stronghold of the Mcsseniahs, by the Spartans, and compelled ho surrender, but was allowed to depart with his men. He died ill Tfhodes.
