TKAM PROBLEMS AGAIN, The fortnightly meeting of tho Karon IJorough C'onwil was held last wemng. Present: The Mayor (Mr W,' 1, Hildreth), and CounfcUtors Burn, Biiidnock, Davis, Hamilton, Jordan, •Boyes, Cimino, and.Skegg.' Coiincillor liarailtou spoke to some length on what ho. termed, tho largo amount of dodging tram conductors by t>ass«ngcrs on .'the Katoti, Hue.. There were two kinds of dodgers who helped to lesson the tram-revenue. There was the on? who wilfully 'slid the conductor out of his fare, and the stranger who, 'tiiiknowingi.v did so, ''Councillor Hamilton considered that the dodger ought to bo caught and'punished, "and, te-ft-ards this .end, he proposed that the traffic 'superintendent should lay traps for. offenders, . -During.the discussion it.was also remarked that the chief .difficulty was that .tlwre were no .inspectors on the Karori liiw. - ' .. It. was.'decided, that the Mayor should ititoryiew the trafiie ' r ma»a'ger on. this ■matter: ',■••,. . Councillor' Burn gave notice of motion for next meeting as follows':-— ()) "That tb'e Tramway' Committee, confisting of the Mayor .and Councillors Davis, Henderson, 'and Burn, wait on the City Council, with the object of tindins tho- best moans -of- combating the Kclburne Bus Company, as they aro affecting the returns of our tram revenue." (2) "That the; council issue aennccssibn ticket, betn-eqn Johnston Street a'ittl the council .chambers of iwenty-fom- rides fov one shilling. The concession ticket to he available on Sundays." (3) ''That the resolutions passed on September 13,1012, and on March 33. 1013,.be reseimlod, and that, tlio following he substituted'. 'That the 3d, special ticket betwton the Gardens and the Borough Chambers or- Park be available out every day during th» week. The ordinary concession ticket to be available as be-foTe..'" On the recommendation of tho Works Committee it was decided, to accept tho lender of C. V. Spiers for fodder for the months of May, June, and July. In his report, the Borough- Engineer fMr. G. N. Brigham) stated that maintenance work had been done on Makara Hal. Parkvale, and Mftin iload, and also on Chamberlain, Don-aid, Wallace, Vera, and Hatton Streets. The four new cloak-rooms .on Karori Park had been completed, and had been used; for the first time on May 2. Two large slips had occurred in'tho quarrv,.and had buried certain metal which wnp ready for crushing. It would take about a fortnight to clear, away the spoil. There was, however, some good stone and boulders in the debris, and this would prove serviceable. There; were about 100 yards of metal with ', which to complete the contract for the new road at Tnitv.iHe. The metalling of the streets for winter had been doaimonced. and tlio following • localities were to. ■ lje. attended to first:—Bea uehamp Street, South Karori, Makara IlifJ, .and Main Roads, M'Bpnald and Diuhie Streets.' Slow progress was being made on the new street from Hatton Street, on.'account of bad weather.
