FAT STOCK MARKET. (From Our Special Correspondent.) Otaki, May 11. At' Saturday's meeting of the'above eocietv, held at Levin, Mr. Laws saidthat, as there was a splendid .gathering of -farmers ho would like to see tho matter of a fat stock .market for Levin discussed. He had taken a petition round in Shannon, and secured more names than were secured in Levin itself. There was no reason why Levin should not bo made tho Addin'gton of the North Island. Johnsonville, he maintained, was 110' good to this' district, whereas if a market'was' secured for Levin it would advance tho district. They wanted abattoirs, and he wished to sec Levin awake to their own interests. - He considered that- a (•ammitteo should be set up to advance' the- matter. Mr. Gardener-said a committee .had previously been' set up to wait on the Borough Council,.but,circumstances had dclayed;;the mattor.> He hoped,- how-'-ever, committee's; would go into the question. ( At this stage the matter dropped. Mr. Neil considered , a;. moi;o- should lie-made to get'reductions-iii-rates on imported stock, and said he would lilw to see the representative at the Agricultural Conference bring'the matter forward. .He, himself,' was.largely interested in pigs, and the present rates Were prohibitive. He hacl to pay. sailing fees,' quarantine fees, etc.,, winch brought pigs to a-fabulous price. He-would like to move that fens on imported stock be reduced;, also ,for,a..reduction, in Jee3. for quarantine,-boating-changes, etc. Mr. Kehboll said it was doubtful if the. society was entitled' to a -representative, as it vas not affiliated.
