At the annual nioetinu of the t'Vaiiga* 1 nui Beautifying (Society, Mr. A, Hatrick, tho president, said that, during the four ' years of tho society's existence, tho * public of Waiisaimi had subscribed. l bc- > tween £4000 and £5000. Ot this amount : £2901) had been spent in the actual work ' of beautifying. This year tho eueioty '• ■ was able to commence its work with a ' credit balance of £1500. ] The executive, was ol the opinion that '' £700 of this amount should be spent this ' year, and the balance next year, ami J thus obviate tho necessity of going to 5 the public next year. During the mooting Mr. W. H. Gib- " son, secretary of tho Carnival Cominit- ! toe, was presented with a gold watch * as a token of appreciation by his fcllow- ' workers in the society. In making; the 1 presentation Mr. Hatrick referred to tho * great amount of time ai d energy which i Mr. Gibson had devoted to the society's 5 affairs.
