A meeting of graduates and other sympathisers, eon.'oHsd by the jR-oni-an ] Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne (Dr. I Carr), was held recently to take preliminary steps towards the establishment of a Koman Catholic college in the .University. A resolution was moved by the Lord Mayor <Cr D, V. Hennessey) and seconded by Mr. Justieo Cussen, affirming tte desiritbility of establishing such a college. By a second resolution, moved by Dr.. Higgins, the Bishop of Ballarat, and seconded by Dr. A. L. Kenny, it was arranged that a public meeting; should bs held in St. Patrick's Cathedral on PcrjteeGst Simday evening (May 31)., "for the purpose of appealing to the nuhli.c far aid in the prosecution of tho work." This resolulimi was supported by Dr. M'Jncrney, warden of the senate; Dr. T. 11.I 1 . Bride, Mr. W. L. BowditeSi, and others. Speaking in supplement- to the remarks of the Archbishop in opening the meeting, Dr. Mannix, coadjutor archbishop, stated that he had called on a number of supporters, lay aild clerical, in and around Melbourne; and tlw promises he had received were su-li as to give as- | Kiirancn that the work would be placed in hand at an early date.
