On Tuesday next, (ho-annual meeting of members of the Marton Jockcj' Club takes place. The report of the committee to be presented on that occasion states: —"Two meetings were held during the year, both of which were exceedingly'successful and capably conducted, reflecting considerable credit on the club's officers; the very large attendance of New Year's Day tried to the utmost the buildings of the club, which have been considerably increased during the pastVseason. Although the bank overdraft has been increased, by nearly \£9oo, no less a sum than £2732 lis. 9d. has been spent on permanent improvements, £36 17s. 3d. on plant and machinery, and the .usual, donation of £30 to the Hunt Club's funds. The other items of expenditure are the ordinary recurring ones. During the season the use of the course'was granted to the Marton District A. and P. Association and to the Junction Athletic Club, both of which held successful meetings. Arrangements are being made for the use of the grounds for golf, and this, it is expected will meet with the approval of all members. , The thanks of the committee- and members are due to the guarantors for financial assistance during the year, and to all honorary officials and the course committee, who worked so well to make the club's meetings a success. Messrs. A. R. Neumann, AY. J. Gray, H. J'. Cameron, and J. H. C. Broad retire in rotation from the committee, but are eligible for re-election."

This being so, those employed therein appear to have every right to amalgamate in the hope of bettering'their conditions, and the formation of the Bookmakers' Clerks' Association is the first step in that direction. No interference between bookmakers and their.clerks is intended, and several prominent members of the JRing Have offered to assist in financing -the formation of a Clerks' Club, a matter that is already in the hands of tho committee." _________
