HOTEL WORKERS' DISPUTE
1 A Conciliation Council will sit at the Conciliation Commissioner's ofiico on Thursday morning to deal with the dispute between tiic Hotel Workers' Union and the employers in private hotels and restaurants. The employers cited number, roughly, 20 private hotelkeepers, 18 oyster saloon-keepors, ten "sixpenny" restaurant-keepers, and 50 tea and luncheon-room proprietors. The Commissioner has asked for the appointment of separate assessors for every one of the four sections of employers alfected. Tho union's proposals are largely based on tho terms of the new hotels' award. In reference to holidays, tho following clauses are submitted:— Weekly Holidays: Six-day houses— Ono half-day's holiday from 2 p.m. on ■somo one working day of tlio week, and in addit ; on all day Sunday shall ba allowed to each worker employed in any establishment under this award which opens for business on six days only in each week. Seven-day houses—One full day's holiday of 24 hours, commencing from the time a worker usually- starts work on any one day shall bo* allowed to each worker in every establ-'shment under this award v.hich opens for business 011 each day of every week. « Counter-proposals have been filed by certain of tho employers. In effcct, the employers (in answer to the union's demands) ask that tho old award be renewed for a period of three years, without change or modification.
