HANDLING HOME CARGO. (Br Telegraph,— Vtm Association^ • Timaru, May 10. 'J'lio Hon. TV. H. Herrics, Minister of Railways, and Mr. E. H. Hiloy, General Manager of Railways, arrived from the south this evening, and wero mat by the Mayor (Mr. Guinness), Mr. Craigie, M.P., and others, and wellcomed. Afterwards, at the Harbour Board's office, Mr. Herrios received representatives of the board and shipping companies, who represented tho inadequacy of facilities for handling direct imports from Homo. Last month a Home liner took nine and a half days to land 2415 tons of cargo. This was partly 'duo to insufficient shunting power, and yiartIv to want of room at tho railway sheds. / ■■, Mr. Hcrries said that those matters n'oiild" be considered with others elsewhere, and he hoped to ho ablo to get a loan to deal with them. Tho Minister and the General Manager, will-inspect tho Fairlie lino on Monday morning.
