Palmerston North; May 8. , rhe Manawatu "Standard" .yesterday devoted thrco-quarters of-a column to speculations ns to the candidates for tljo next Parliamentary election hero. ,16 mentions. seven gentlemen as having been asked to stand, namely: Messrs. Buick (present member), J. A. Nash (Mayor), R. M'Nab, C. F Spooner, E. O. Hurley, E. H. Crabb', and H. T. B. Drew. In reply to an interviewer ,as to his intentions of standing as a Government candidate, Mr. Nash promised a statement within three days. Mr. E. 0. Hurley, ivlio is head of tho local Liberal party, denied tho truth of the rumour as applied to Jiim,and Mr. Drdw said ho had no intention of seeking Parliamentary, honours. -Mr. M'Nab's presence in Palmerston North just recently is mentioned ■ ns significant, though the "Standard"' ' is inclined to think he will- not stand. 'Mr. Crabb did not deny.tho likelihood of his being' n candidate as an Inde-pendent-Liberal with claims onr'tho Labour'and Prohibition vote.' Mr. Spooner declared his intention of standing as a. Liberal, cither now or ill a future election. He said one contingency-stands in the way of his final decision as to the present'election. The "Standard" expressed tho opinion that if Mr. M'Nab i stands noiUier Mr. Crabb ' nor Mr. flpeoner will enter,the field.
