HIGH COMMISSIONER REPLIES TO ALLEGATIONS. 1 By Tclesraph—Press ' (Rcc. May 7,11.30 p.m.)London, May 7. Tho High Commissioner for Now Zealand (the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie), in a long letter to the Press, refutes the statement of Mr.' Worrall, a Now Zealander, in v tho "Daily News," alleging ill-treatment in connection with compulsory service. ■ • ' • Mr. Mackenzie says:—"Mr. Worrall apparently .yMShed; to. convey tho.impression that his son had been treated like Captain Dreyfus, imprisoned in a lonely island fortress far away from civilisa•tiou, whereas the island is situated in Lyttelton Harbour. The bulk of the socalled objectors aro entirely unfit for our vigorous-country."
