THE EVERETT- ROAD RESERVE. PLEA TO KEEP IT INTACT. (By Telesrauh.—Vress Association.) ■ Chrlstohuroh, May 7. < The following tolegram signed by a numbor oE prominont Cliristchurch peoplo was forwarded on Tuesday to the Minister of Lands! (Hon. W. F. Massey):— "Wo concur in the'request which has been mado that tho Everett Road Reserve, near Inglewood, should not bo destroyed, and'we strongly urge you to declare so much of tho land as is covered with forest a scenic reserve, and so preserve it for all time. We .have seen tho Gazetto notice describing the timber for sale, and it shows that the forest is of a magnificent character, which" it would bo a areat . sbame to destroy. There aro too few resorres of the primevaj forest of this country. We would point out that a reserve of. primeval forest of tho country does not belong to the people of tho district, in which it_ exists, but to the people of tho Dominion. Wo therefore earnestly urgo you not to sell the forest. If you cannot see your way to sot tho forest aside as a scenic reserve without some monetary compensation to tho Government, we would ask you to allow people to buy the trees in order that tho forest may bo preserved. l Wo sincerely trust that you will tako immediate action to withdraw tho forest trees from sale, and to. declare the. land a scenic reserve. In doing so wo believe that you would bo acting with the concurrence and in accordance with the.wishes of the great majority of tho p8ople ; of this country."
