Apparently the political outlook is much more promising than seemed possible a week or so ago. OTHER MAHKETS. The wool ■ market is very Arm, and all section? are operating at the sales. English buyers arc talcing com™ wools freely, and German and American buyers are bidding for fine wools. The activity of the Americans is very satisfactory, and it is perhaps because they are in the market that fine wools have advanced. ' The tone of the Bradford top market is said to be confident, although business is restricted. The butter market is cxcocdiuglv dull, colonial sorts being affected by the increase of European supplies. The butter market has been weak for some time past, and if local prices hod any relation to .London, quotations as has frequently been elated it. has, then prices to New Zealand consumers should have been reduced long ago. Butter is retailing in the city at' Is. 3d. per lb., and it should not be more than Is. Id., at its proper level. The cheese market is reported quiet, hut prices continue firm with white at 61s. to 655., and coloured at 635. to 645. 6d.
