CHURCH MEETING.
ST. MARY'S, KAKOEI. The- annual- meeting of tho members of the parochial district of Kurori and Makara was held in the elrarehroom on Thursday evening, tho Vicar (ill© Bev. A, L. Haasell) presiding. Tho annual report and the financial statement were adopted. It was stated in'the report that the offertories showed a slight increase as compared to last year's; but the subscriptions and' donations showed a slight decrease. Tho revenue derived from tho Parochial Hall doer-eased by nearly fifty per cent. Owing to tho facilities giren by tho tram system, there docs not appear to be a general demand for tho use of a public ball as. in former years. The vestry expressed its indebtedness to St. Mary's Guild and Flower Show Committee? f&r their substantial donations to the genera! parish fwnd. The balance dtte on tho organ lias been paid, and there is- now a slight credit balance to this fund, which will be transferred to the general ftmd. During the past year £75 was paid off the chtireh building fund, Mrs. Atkins generously gave an amount <rf £8 to this fund. Tho vestry propose, to mates a special effort to reduce considerably the amount still owing. St. Matthias's Committee, Makara, made good progress during tho year towards raising fluids for their proposed church. This fund stands to credit £260, without tho • ai'cmed interest. Great regret was expressed at the early departure of the Vicar, who has been at Karori for the past fourteen years,' ; during: which period tho vieavago and chtu'ch havo been built, also tho drgan ! installed and paid {or. Many years of successful work in his new sphere at the Hutt was the expressed wish of the vestry. Thanks was extended to the many church workers who assisted in ( tho work of the parish during the year, i ■especially to the lay-readers, choir, and choir-masteV,'the organists, St. Mary's' Guild, the C.E.M.S.. the auditor,, super-J inteiident. and teachers of the Sunday; ! School, and tho Guild of Church Decorators. According to the financial statement, < the main sources o£ revenue were general offertories, £168; special offertories £36 3s. O<J., combining the following : — Pension fund, £4 4s. 7<1.; Melanesiau Mission, £G 4s. 6d.; Maori Mission, £6 13s. 6d._; general church fund, £8 4s. M,; social service fund, £1 Is.; Bible-in-Schools League, £3 165.; organ fund (recital), £2 12s. 2d.; New Guinea Mission, I3s. 3d.marquee i'nnd for Tcrfitarial camp, £2 10s.; subscriptions and donations, £135; rent liall, £10: dona, tions from St. Marv' Guild and Flower Show Committee, £40. Oil lira expenditure sido, borough rate's accounted for £20 3s. 5d.; interest, £60 25,; assessment, £226 IBs.; and sundry general chargcs, £45 12s. sd. In reviewing the Woric of til® past yaar, tho Vicar said ho was thankful to be able to say that all the organisations wore really alive. The brightest sign was tho increases in interest in foreign missions. Ho hoped that tljo parish would continue this, and Would strongly support tho Missionary Exhibition lis be held in Wellington in February, 1915. Referring to the fact that he was about to give up work at Karon', ho thanked tho vestry and others for their loyal support, and expressed himself as confident that they would extend tho'same loyalty to his successor.A resolution in favour of a referendum in connection with the fiiblfe-in-State-schools movement was. carried unanimously.
