CAB FARES BY-LAW
FINALLY ADOPTED
THE DISTRICTS AND HIRING
CONDITIONS
Tho new city by-law relating to cab fares and conditions of hiring was' formally confirmed at tho meeting of tl{e City Councl last evening and will comb into force on .May 15. For the purposes of tho by-law the following districts are constituted:—
, District I. All that' part of the City area bounded on the north and cast by tho shore of Lambton Harbour from Fitzgerald's Point to the north end of Thorndon Esplanado and on tho landward side bounded by and including the following streets'.or parts of.streets.' Streets crossing tho railway lines from the north end of Thorndon Esplanade 'to Hutt Head, Tinakori Road-from Hutt Road to Sydney • Street, Sydney Street, Museum Street, The Terrace, Woolcombe Street, Abel Smith- Street from Woolcombo Street to' lano leading to Palmer Street, lano leading from Abel Smith Street to Palmer Street, Palmer Street, Willis Street from Palmer Street to Hauka Street, Webb Street, Taranaki Street from Webb Street to Buckle Streot,. Buckle Street from Ellice Streot to Paterson Streot, Nelson Street, Lloyd Street, Pirie Street from Lloyd Street to Kent. Terrace, Kent Terrace from Pirie Street to. Clyde Quay, Clydo. Quay to Fitzgerald's Point. ■•• ■ • ' District 2. All that part of the City area bounded 'on the north by, but not including, Ellico Street from Brougham Street to Buckle Street, Buckle Street, Taranaki Street, from Bucklo Streot to Webb Street, Webb Street from Taranaki Streot to Broadway Terraco arid on tho west bounded by and including Broad- • way Terrace, Arlington Street, Hopper, Street south of Arlington Street,. Kilmore Avenue, Sidey Street, Hankey " Street from eastern boundary of Town Aero 679 to Wallace Street, Wallace Street from Hankoy Street to Bidwill Streot, Bidwill Streot, Bell Road to the north boundary of Town Acre '685 .thence on tho west and south bounded by, but not including, the Town Belt to the intersection of Wright Street and tho New Road. Thenco oh the south bounded by an including the New Road to tho north-west corner of Town Acre 905, thenco on tho west bounded by, but not including tho Town Belt to the west end of Hall Street. Thence on the south bounded by and including Hall Streot and- Moin Street to the east end of Mein Street, thence on the cast and north bounded by but not including Sections 7, 6,. and 5 Town Belt and Quarry Reserve, and on vthe north hounded by, but not including, Town Acres 749 and 675 and Paterson Street, ' and on the cast bonnded by, but not including, BrougharA Street, from Paterson Street, to Ellice Street.

It is provided that additional passengers shall bo carried only with the consent of tho original hirer of a cab. • Ifares for tho Various Wharves in and Adjoining the City.—Sixpence per.passenger extra. Tho hirer also pays wharfago _6d. if more, than ono passenger is carried. Fares to or from Thorndon Station.— I'ho sum of b'd., in addition to tho fare, chargeable.
. Fares by'Timo. Day Fares.—For licensed oue-horso carriage (including a- hansom cab): For tho first hour, as. ; for every subsequent quarter of an hour, Is. 3d!; for licensed carraigq drawn by more than ono horse,.for tho first hour 7s. 6d., for every subsequent quarter of an hour, Is. 6d. . .. . ■. \ . Xight Fares.—Additional half-rates may bo charged. . City Area Outside Districts 1, 2 and 3.—Tho -faro shall be the fare payable for tho distance- traversed in districts Nos. 1, 2, and 3, with tho addition of tho suni of Is. to that fare, with tho exception of Maim Street, Hankoy Street, Thompson Street, Ohira Hoau, Maarama Crescent, and Mortimer Terrace, when tho extra sum payablo shall be 2s. Suburban Area and Outside City.— Whoro any journey is beyond the citj area, charges shall bo by time only at tho above schedule rates for the whole journey. Where such journey ends beyond the city area timo shall bo calculated until return to the boundary of the city area. Luggage.—Luggage to the amount of 601b. per passenger free. Anything over that allowance to bo charged at tho rate of 6d. per 601b. weight . Detention. —For every fifteen minutes or fraction of tho samo after the first fivo minutes, Is. Allowance for journey to pick up faro. —If a cab is taken or called from a stand, and the distance travelled before the passenger is picked up is more than a Quarter of a milo, Is. extra may bo oharjeed. Not Employing.—Any persons calling or sending for a cab or carriage, and not f-.irther employing tho samo shall pay, if the distance the cab or carriage has boon called exceed ono hundred yards, or if the cab or carriage has been, called off a stand, in addition to nnv amount incurred • for detention, as if one passenger had been carried over tho distance which the cab has travelled in consequence- of tho call.
Holiday Fares. Holidays. —Sundays, Christmas Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, Empire
Day, Prince of Wales Birthday, Labour Day, King's liirthday, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, Anniversary Day: day fares, ono and a half times ordinary fares; night fares, same as ordinary uight fares.
Special Orders.—(l) A cab shall be deemed to be specially ordered when it is required to bo in attendance to commence the journey nt a time moro than half an hour after tho date of/ engagement.
(2) Day Fares.—Tho foregoing provisions as to fares by timo shall apply, but tho minimum fare shall bo ss.
(3) Night Fares.—Tho foregoing provisions as to. fares by time shall apply, hut the minimum faro shall bo paid as follows:— '
Vthiclos drawn by one horse—(l) When tho journey commences after 7 P.m., and beforo .11 p.m., 7s. Gd.; (!2) wheu the journey commences after 11 D.m. and before 1 a.m., 10s.; (3) when the journey commences after 1 a.m. and before 3 a.m., 12s. Gd.; (4) when tho journey commences after 3 a.m. and beforo 6 a.m., 15s.
Vehicles drawn by more than one horse.— (l) -When the journey commences after 7 p.m. and beforo 11 p.m., 103:; (2) whon the journey commences after 11 p.m. and before 1 a.m., 12s. 6d. ;■' (3) when the journey commences after 1 a.m. and before 3 a.m., 155.; (4) when tho journey commences after 3 a.m. and before 6 a.m., 17s. 6d.
