MANAWATU AUTUMN MEETING

JOCKEY SUSPENDED. THE STAKES WON BY EMPERADOR (By .Telcgrapli.—Special Correspondent.) '■ . palmersion N., April 30. The Manawatu Racing Club wero again*favoured with line weather, and n largo attendance for the second day of their 'Autunln Meeting. The course was in good order; while the starting and handicapping left nothing to be desired. --. Consequently, some well- •• fousht-out races resulted. The Manawatu Stakes proved one; of the. finest . Jiuishcd ; races ever. ;scen on the course, tbo .majority of the■■'horse's only being separated by a narrow 'margin;. ■ The honours of tlio race went,, to. .Mr.. G. Greenwood's Emporador, piloted home by W, Young by a neck. Tlie amount . jHissed '.'through tlio' machine/for tho '(lav was £17,930, against £17,910 for the corresponding day last year. i. Tlio total for-tho meeting was £36,957, as 1 against £35,518 last year. .- "',- . s Tho .stewards concluded-tho inquiry into the running of Classis on the first day in the Linton Hack Handicap,' ■and disqualified the owner, jockey, and • horse- for six.months. An.'inquiry was also held into the alleged, interforenco by Bold Stroke in tho Manawatu Stakes. The stewards wore satisfied-that the interference was not intentional, but-in thoir opinion' owners Vshould. exereiso greater' care in pnttiiig'up horsemen, and see that they nre capable of controlling their mounts. R, 'Bbrry, \whb was riding Gonoral' Maddro in the Clove'rlea Hack Handiciip, was suspended for a month for careless riding. ' :. . ■ Jackman. Aruake,' and Huia were evenly supported ;in the Hurdles. ' The top-weight made play for a mile at a slow pace, when-Aruako ran up to his quarti-rs," and,..taking charge at tho-last fence, lie won with-a lot in hand.' The top-weight' ran up to 'his,: first I day's i form, but the winner improved vastly. Advancement, s. full-brother to TrosV», mado his appearance, in this race, and created a favoiirablo impression. Wild Lupin and 'Tetikura ' forfeited their engagements in tho Open W'elter Handicap. Guiding Way was most 'in demand, but though ho began well he could not hold his place, and was , sent back. Aftor this"'ho : got 'a Very bad ■run. as did Paoli,..aiidytlie r .:p3U\-finished just outside tho placed horses. Manitiiu got a lucky opening on tho fenco as the field '...raccdi' into tho straight, , mid, going on'won. well'from Smilax, with Alecto third. Sanguinary and Lady Louisa showed pace to tho turn, where thoyvwero both.dono with. Tyson was after-in the Cloverloa Hack Handicap, aJid getting out- well' ho led tho whole way. General; Madero, Tiofa, Conziska, and His Eminence wore prominent in behind the loader all the way. Gay.Guard got a very bad run, and Confirm, who is very croon, ivas-n poor ■' • ■ ■ _ The Manawatu Stakes was a good thiiiK for Empera.dor, who came from a long way back,,;and- is certainly the' best horso 'the Dominion tortav. At ,tho • start'. Bold Stroke and Uipsy BclleaeJayedthe race, , but when tlio barrier-lifted, Ermengarde soon gained the load.-'Attlio half-milo Autumnus limporador/and Gipsy Belle wero in the rear, and Ermengarde had a twoJensths break on tho others. Empera-. dors rider then shook •■his mount up and raced up \o the leaders as the stewards stand was ..passed; :Hore Autumnus;- joined in the.race, nnd tho two fought out a good ■finish:' Emperador .Hist won from -Autuinnusj with ErmoiM:araO'..a half-leiigtli 'away, "followed by and; .Ringform, who wore, tojjothor..;. Autumnus, Emperador-.-and "'PS.Y Belle- wero interfered with by' Bold Stroko, and were nearly browli't down, at, the start. 9 The winner a°nd runner-up came from a long r wav back nnrf. the honours of. tho'race were with them alone. .:.-.■ IJho Hack Welter field was just, about as poor a lot as could bo got together. Combustion, who has yet to win a maiden race,, was a better'favourite than Glenorchy and John Willie. For tho first six furlongs, Mystified and John Vwlho wero in front, but then Combustion and Piermont ran up to them. Ihcso two were fighting out the finish when btockade appeared on tho outside and/coming on, won by a length. Piermont was two lengths clear of Combustion. , Tho whole of the eight acceptors lined up at the barrier for tho Autumn Hack Handicap. Sty rax was tho outsider of the field, but the others wore all well supported, First Consul and Red Book bemg most fancied. At tho start Ched-dar-and Red Boolrled from Moutoa Girl nnd Styrax.- Approaching the half-mile-GlenAnnaii ran to- the front, and from tins point ho was not headed. Entcrine tho straight, was his nearest attendant, with First Consul coming fast on tho outside." Glenh'nnan was not deposed in the run home, and won iiicely by a length and a half. Moutoa Gul and Cheddar got bad passages. Orleans, Raupani, and Encore wero ■withdrawn from tho Hack Flying Handicap, and Montano was tho selection of tlio. public. Maisonette,- Monette, and Microbe mado tlio running to-'the turn, whoro Montano catno fast on tho outside, nnd in tho run homo ho easily held his (uvii. Maralma got boxed in at the turn or.sho may havo been closer at the finish. - . For tho Borough Handicap. Crown Pearl (Deeley) was first choice, and Kaniki-was next in demand, while tho others.all had good followings. Crown Pearl and Kaniki got very Had passages, nnd this materially assisted Svcaborp to win. In-tho-straight, Sveaborg shot out,' and in a very closo finish won by n narrow margin from Crown Pcari, with Tho Great Mogul third. A.section of the crowd did not take ; the placIngs well, and shouted for Cro ;.n Pearl, while others called for Ladv Lcasa, who finished fast on tho outside'
