MARKET VERY FIRM. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, April 28 The wool sales opened flrm at, from pmto 5 per cent, advance. There is a good selection of crossbreds, but few mcrinoe. (Eec. April 29,. 11.30 p.m.) ' London, April 29 The wool' sales cleared 9665 bales, including 7597 from Kew Zealand. There, was a good attendance of buyerE, and good competition, Yorkehiremen being the principal operators; the Americans gave fair support, and the Continental buyers were quiet. Medium and lower crossbreds wore practically unchanged Iroin the March closing rates. Merinoe and fine croMbrede had a slight upward tendency, occasionally advancing hy sd.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture. Industrien, nad Commerce, has received the following cablegram from the High Commission for Now Zealand, dat'.d London, April 28, 1914, ' regarding the opening of the third series of colonial wool sales:—"Wool sales: The wool eales have commenced. There is a large attendance, including American represents lives, and competition is strong. Merinos and fine crossbreds, all grado?. average from par to id. dearer. Medium and coarse troEebretto, fill grades, are very firm at closing rates at last sales; 130.000 bales Now Zealand wool are catalogued."
BBOKEItS , PRIVATE CABLEGRAMS. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wellington, have just received the following cablegram from their London office, under datci April 28:—"The third series of wool sales has opened. Attendance of buyers is large, competition animated, and eelcc iiou good. As compared with list sale's closing rates, prices for medium and coar;o crossbre-ds are unchanged, and for mcTinos and fine erossbreiis prices ate par to i jvr cent, higher."' Messrs. Levin and Co. have received tho following cablegram:—"Merino and fine crossbred opened at an advance of 5 per cent, on the closing rates of the March series. Medium and coarse crossbred oncncd Brm on a par with last talc's closing rates. There was a large attendance of buyers. Bidding was very ke-cn." Messrs. Murray. Roberts, and Co., Lt'l. have received the following cablegram from their London frieudb. Messrs. Sanderson, Murray, and Co., under date April 23:—"London wool sales: Sales have opened firm, there bciujj a Imxs alU'inlanco of buyers and competition good. I'or greasy merino the market luis advanced par to 5 per cent., but for all other descriptions of wool the market shows uu material change?' ' Messrs. W. and G. Turnbull and Ci, ltd., report having received tho following cabled information from their London agents under date of April 28:—"Fine wools nrtvenced 2} to 5 per cent., others unchanged." The United Farmers' Co-op. Association, Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London, agents:— "Wool sales to-day were wel.l attended by Ilome. Continental, and American, buycre. Fine and coarse crossbred showed no appreciable change as compared with previous sales." The New Zealand Lean and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.. have received the following cablegram from' their London house:—"There wa3 a full attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home, Continental, and American buyers being active, and prices, as compared with the close of preceding series, ruled par to 5 per cent* higher for merino wool and fine crossbred wool.
