MARKETING DAIRY PRODUCE
PRESENT METHOD CONDEMNED. .(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Hawera, April 29. .A n important meeting of representatives of tho dairy ■ companies of .tho North Island -was held at Hawera today to consider tho question of the companies taking joint action to secure better marketing for their dairy produce, in'the markets of tho world. The meeting was convened by tho South Taranaki dairy companies, whoso output vahio or dairy' produce approximates seven hundred thousand sterling for tlio year. Fifty dairy factories were represented, and Mr. Jacob Marx (Mangatoki) presided. ' Tlio chairman and several speakers spbko of tlio present methods of handling produce in the Home Land, and all the speakers expressed their dissatisfaction) with tho existing system. Mr. Forsyth (Eltham) moved: "That this meeting of dairy representatives of the North Island of New Zealand desire to express their dissatisfaction with the present nictliottjs of marketing their dairy produce, and consider that the tirno is now ripo for devising some improved • system which will unite the whole of the producers and establish some plaiv of to securo moro satisfactory results" than at present obtained." Mr. York© (Whenuakura) seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. .■■•■■ It was decided that the policy of Homo marketing be confined to open consignment and selling. Mr. Forsyth (Eltham) proposed; "That witli a view to advancing the objects of this meeting, a representative committee of the North Island dairy companies be set up/to draw up a practical scheme for marketing butter and cheese; and that the committee's proposal be submitted to tho dairy companies of the Domiuion not later than May 31, and that a meeting of accredited representatives of New Zealand dairy companies be held at Palmerston North on Wednesday, Juno 17 to deal with the committee's report." Mi'i Priest (Eketahuna) seconded the motion, which was'carried unanimously. Tho following committee was appointed: —Messrs. Wise (Eketahuna), Halst (Waiiganui), J)ea.tk (Hawera), Whittaker (RongoTica), Moncrieff (Wairarapa), Forsyth (Eltham), Marx (Mangatoki), Morton (National Dairy Association), Powdrell (Kanpokomu), Hubhard (Thames Valley), M'Donald (Ratal, Murdoch (Okaiaw.i), Connett (Bellblock), Geary '(Mclrnse),' Goodfellow (Waikato), Strange (Te Aroha), Corripan (Hawera), Batten (Riverdale). Mr. Morton was elected chairman of the committee. A motion was agreed to that it be. a recommendation to the dairy companies to pay for milk according to grade.
