TherManawatu llaeiiig Club's Autumn Meeting opened in fine weather to-day, when tlicro was a good attendance Tlic course was sliglitly holding.. Tho sum of £19,027 was passed through tho machine,, against £17,60(3 for tho first day last vear. \ Tho "Hover and Timothy were tho withdrawals from the Karcro Hurdles, in which four of tho runners were evenly backed. fluia and Florist led at the , start, .but at tho second fenco tho maro tried to run off, and Huia was left with a big.lead. From this out the ratio was a procession, and tho Kilchoran gelding, never iooked like getting caught., Jaokman was second over the last circuit, and was.there , at tho finish, somo ten lengths behind tho winner. Aniako was well hack, just clear of Composed. Kauroa was in tho rear the wliplo way. The ,two-year-old Want, who showed such a : lot of paco at Trentham on Saturday, was the best liked i;i tho Maiden Plate, while Encore, who camo from Hawera with a reputation, was also in demand. Want drew an outside niarblo, but after Wild Daisy had showed , tho way for two furlongs, the youngster took command, and Encoro ran into second place. Tho pair cleared out from tho field. Want won by'a -couple of lengths, ■ with Encore' ten lengths in front of Combustion,.and tho others strung out. Styrax... put ,up 51b.. over-weight in tho Taikbrea Welter, so that he could bo ridden'by Oliver. Ho was most in demand, with Jlanitau and Paoli, also well supported.' Alccto made the- early running from Tetikura' and Kilost'en, with Styrax on the. fence ,next, -and Paoli following. Tho field bunched at the three furlongs, and some of them were very wide out. Here Tetikura got a. big-brcak, : and passing the stewards' stand, "jc. had a .lead of several lengths, hut Doctey then set', sail on Paoli, and, after a. great effort, he got up on the post..- -Maiiitau-was a poor third. Tho winner was received with cheers on his return to weigh-in. • Mr. ,T. B. Reid's well-bred Charmilla was greatly fancied in the-Sires' Produce Stakes, and after a good: finish with Bold Stroke, ' sho just pulled through. Tetc-a-Toto mado tho running from Charmilla to the turn for homo, whore ; the. southerner, ran--to tho front. At the distance Bold Stroke challenged, and, after a- good finish, Chiirinilla won by a nock. Tete-a-Totc was an indifferent third, and the others were strung out. Martian Princess and Intelligible showed paco in the first part, but failed to finish on. Football was never prominent. Only four started.-iu tho Hack Welter Handicap, which proved .quite a good thing for the Feilding-trained Glon-. orchy. Stockade made tho.running for Jialf a-raiie, when Gleiiorchy ran to tho front, and won , by fully twenty Jeii'Kths. Classis was a poor third, and Muntchaka, who • looked very rough, was down the straight when tho others were, finishing. .. -...-.... '. . . Bronze. Kinaldo, and Lady La.ddo were withdrawn Lpnghurn Handicap.; Gleofinnan and Sir Kiiok were supported in that order, ■■with several of the others well fancied. At tho start, laclify and Cheddar led a bunched field,-which was whipped by Sir Kiips. . Passing J the six-f iirloiigs "post ■ Oleiiliiinari'was "just behind tho leader. Going down tho back, First Consul and Bonny Helen both heenmo prominent, and'entering tho straight they, were clear of the field, but Otahu was coming fust.on "tho outside. First Consul held.his own well, but in tho last bit Itoniiv Eelon wore him down. Otahu was aJeiigth away, and then came Mouto.v,.Girl. Glonfimian,'; and Cheddar. The others, with the exception of Ladify, who was tailed, off, were well bunched.- Sir Ki.-ox was last. 1 Baupani, Moutauo, and Pursefiller '> were the best fancied in tile Woqdhey 5 Hack Handicap, but Montano waa the J only:ono of-them to njako'hiiy showing. . At the. start, Pursefiller and 1 General Madero were out in front, , bnt the former soon lost her position, and Ooiiziska and His Eminence led Raupani. At tho turn for home, Microbe shot out, and Montano challenged,' but in a good set-to he failed to catch Minrobo. His Eminence was third, and ■ Pursefiller next. ■'■ [ Ermengardo was a very hot order in !| tho Telegrnph Handicap, in which tho < scratching wore very numerous. Tho favourite did not got out well, but soon f ran to tho front, and led Playoff and "i Knniki round the bottom bend. Enter- 1 ing the straight , the "Highden" mare 'J fell back, and the position then changed U a lot. Lady Louisa and Kaniki both J looked to have :i winning chances at tho 7 distance, but AVild Lupin, Sveaborg, and Kpworth -finished very strongly, I and gained tho places. Gipsy Belle ,- goW away badly, but was flying over I everything at thu finish. . : 7
