LIFT ACCIDENT
SOY CAUGHT & BADLY-INJURED.
'A, boy, named Clifford Blake, ; aged 15 years, and engaged in tho. employ of ■l'\ Cooper, Ltd., seed merchants, ,of. Willis Street, was rather badly injured in the firm's goods lift at 12.30 p.m. yesterday. It seems'that, having finished lunch, he decided to go from iho ground floor to the cellar in tbo lift, with tho working of which he was not very well acquainted. Ho jumped on to the floor of tho lift, gavo tho wire control rope a downward pull, and this sent tho lift up. Noting that he -was ascending instead of descending, ho endeavoured to jump out whilst tho lift was in motion, with tho result that ho was caught between tho floor of the lift and tho top of tho opening to, the lift •well. Tho attention of another boy, named Ronald Cairns, was attracted, and he ran to tho well and gave the control rope an upward pull, which released the boy. It was seen at once that ho was badly hurt, and medical assistance was summoned. Dr. Martin 'attended the case, and, after rendering temporary aid, ordered tho patient's removed to the Hospital. Tho boy resides with his parents at 30 Evans Bay Road, Kilbirnie. On inquiry at tho Hospital late last evening it was ascertained that' Blake was suffering from a fractured pelvis and internal injuries. Ho was progressing as well as could bo expected.
