The remarkable steaming perforninnco of tho Cunard 1 liner Lusitania across the Atlantic has excited wido interest, and according to news received by the English mail, the giant Cuuarder has established a world's record. She loft New York for Liverpool on Tuosday, March 3. and between Thursday noon and Friday noon steamed 618 nautical miles, at an average speed of 26.70 knots. The world's record for a day's run cast previous to this was 614 miles, accomplished in April, 1911, by the Cunard Royal Mail steamer Mauretania, the Lusitania, however, being a good second with 608 knots. All Atlantic speed records are held by tho Lusitania and Mauretania. This latest achievement of the Lusitania: further strengthens the already predominant position of these vessels on the Atlantic. Their superiority in speed is as unassorted now as it was six years ago, and tho Lusitania, whoso turbine engines were recently submitted to a lengthy overhaul, has shown that the best may not yet have been attained.
