LIVELY AFFAIR AT PETONE,
'At the conclusion of a performance m Pctonc last evening by a travelling circus, an individual had a rather excited argument with one of tho troupe, and it Is stated that blows were struck. A crowd of revcral hundred gathered spccdilv, and tho unique speStaclo ot the'circus staff armed with batons was io bo seen guarding the tent-door lest 'tho mob should chargo it. One of the troupe ondeavonrcd to explain matters, but was promptly "counted out. lio person who figured prominently at the beginning of the scene declared that he had been hit with a baton and had railed on his assailant to come out and ficrht. Eventually someone mentioned that tho police were coming and the crowd promptly dispersed.
