ASSOCIATION.
(Br Cextee-Halp.) / . NOTES & ANTICIPATIONS. Prospects for 1914. 'io-day will see the first round of championship matches, and, taken on the whole, the entries must bo considered satisfactory. There will bo eleven senior teams, and altogether some 68 tcamß will bo engaged ill Wellington this afternoon. • One old Benior team—St. John s has dropped out of the ranks, and a new team—Petonc—has cotr.Q up from junior. It is unfortunate that there will have to be a bye in the first division championship, and the Management Committee might havo considered the possibility of bringing . another junior team up. There is l no doubt that the question of grading teams will have to ho seriously considered before next' season. . ■
The Tariff on Ground*. There is every prospect of the season boing -ii prosperous one. It is true that (as far as one can see at present) the W.F.A. will have to pav heavily for city Teserves, but that should'not worry the control. Indirectly, the players will have to pay the piper, as they have done in the past. Tho latest'is that it has been decided to charge fourth division players, who happon to play on city reserves, 3d. per Saturday. The cost of football, m Wellington can be compared to the cost of living—both are going up.
Strong Teams on paper. It is rather early to pick winners as yet, but, on paper, DiamondSj Thistles, and Hospital appear to be the strongest teams in tho competition this year. It is a long way to the fimshhowever, and a lot of things can happon betweenJiow and then, bo why try to prognosticate?
Last Year's Legislators, If anybody is deserving of praise, it is last year's Management Committee. Last season was a particularly hard one from their point of view, and the committee had a lot of work to do, and did it well. The Tules and by-laws were revised, standing orders were set up an insurance schemo for players considered and brought into operation. 'Chen there wero negotiations in connection with tho new ground. Jhe nutcomo of these was that iootball has been played on the grdund for the last two Saturdays. Apart irom too above internal work, there was tbo .goneral supervision atid discipline of clubs and players.
This Year's Control. Familiar faces arc missing from this year's committee. It was not a case of being defeated at tho poll—they did not offer themselves for re-election. The reasons wero various. -Two members pleaded business ties. Two stated Ion" before the annual meeting took place, that thoy were going to devote as much time as possible to tho worlc of tho Now Zealand Football Association this season, and two other members wero not eligible, for election this year on account of being mcmbors of the Now Zealand Counci. . In Mr. A. E. Wells the present Management Committee ' ia3 ,. a , chairman, who takes caro , that tho business is conducted properly, lho now members of tho committeo are Messrs. A. Varney (secretary of the YMCA), W. Matheson (an old Swifts'player), J. Black (formerly a Diamonds player), and J. Chapman. .Tha other members of the committee are tho same as last year. I'or some considerable timo a faction .of tlio soccer followers have been crying out for "new blood" on tho Management. Committee. Now they have got it.
TWO DOSES A COMPLETE CTTRfi, "I i»m siilijp.ct to boteel troubles which canso pain and inconvenience," writes Mr. Alfred Wane, 185 Auburn Bond. Auburn, Vic., "but havo always found two doses of Chamberlain's Colic and Diarrhoea Tiomody to effect a complete cure. I am pleased to know that there i=t such a safe and certain remedy as Chamberlain's Colic tirnl Diarrhoea TJemedy. and always keep a bottl« handy.''—Advt. A rhnreh of solid coral is to b® seen on the Isle of 3tahe, which is one of the Seychelles group.
