WELLINGTON SOUTH CLUB. Mr. B. B. Allen presided at tho Wellington South Chess CuiVs annual mooting, which was held in tho Newtown Library last* night. There was a good attendance -of members. aftd one now member, Mr, H. Douglas, was ejected Tho annual report and tho balancesheet wero adopted. In tho annual report it was Stated that tho receipts for- the year amounted to £1.4 Is. 7d., and the txpomlitdro to £13 9s. Id-. The receipts, included donations of £1 Is. from Dr, J. H. Kc-mp slid 10s, 6d. from Dr, P, flp, Bower-. bank, to whom the thanks of members was extended. Tho annual handicap tourney* which provided many interesting games, resulted in Mr. H. J. Thompson securing first prize-, Mr. D. Purehas second priz®; and Mr. Berry third prize. -Owing, to tourney games occupying the greater part of the season, less interest was taken in the bidder contest, tho result of which was'that Mr. Altai retained the titb of club champion. During tho year the annual match with tho' . Wellington Working Men's -Club was played, and ended in a victory for the City Club by 10 games to seven. In mentioning that, during tho past year 17 active and three honorary members belonged to tho club, tho committee expressed th# hope that every member would do his utmost to further iiiduco players to join. A. larger membership', in addition to offering a wider field for play, would (tho report stated) appreciably infiteaso the : finances and enable a trophy to be "pro- J vided as first pria» in the annual handicap tourney. Mr. Allen; tho pfesi-; dent, kindly relieved tuo club or tlio burden by providing a trophy for this year. I .
