FALLOW DEER DETERIORATING

IN WANGA.NUI DISTRICT. (By Telecrapii.—Special C-nrje-sDoiJenU Wanganui, April 24, At tho annual nmetiug of tho Wauga.nui Acclimatisation Society the report stated that tho society started this year with, a credit balance of £146. Durifig tho past year £05 had been spent- on tho purchaso of game and nsh, rnqst of which bad done well. It was decided to vote £80 for tho purchase and distribai tion during the coming, year of ftsh, feathered game, and stags, 111 regard to tho latter it was stated by,tho chairman, Mr. H. J. Duigan, that the fallow deer herds in this district had greatly deteriorated during past years, A number of weedy stags with malformed heads should bo shot out and new blood introduced. • Poaching by Maoris, especially tho taking of trout in nets, was discussed at some length, and it ■ was decided to report the state of affairs to tho Minister of Internal Affairs. Officers elected for the coming year were: Patron, Mr. Donald Boas; president, Mr. James Allison; vice-president, Mr. H. <T. DtiigMi: secretary and treasurer and delegate to annual Acclimatisation Conference, Mr. 15. N. Li.Oiten. A numerous general committee, also sub-committees to supervise tho various departments of the society's work; w«ro •jlso appointed.
