TEACHER SUMMONED
___4 , STRAPPING AN UNRTJLY BOY. (By Tflleerapb.—Press Association.) Wanganui, April 22. A caso of much interest to school teachers was concluded: at the Magistrate's Court to-day. F. C. Jennings, first assistant of Wanganui East School, was charged with assaulting fl ten-year-old boy mimed M'Williams. It was- alleged that, owing to jnVilliams's inability to do sums which had been taught whilo ho was in hospital undergoing nn operation, ho was thrown on tho floor by tho mastor and severely thrashed, tho bruises being apparent for some time. . . Tho ' defence was that tho punishment was for insolouco and insubordination, and was not excessive. Tho teacher had put the boy over his knee and administered, six strokes with a strap, when tho boy, who was resisting, wriggled on to the floor, whero he received three moro strokes. Tlio Magistrate, in dismissing tho information, hold that tho punishment was merited, and not excessive.
