FOR YEAR 1913-14. MARKED INCREASE ALL SOUND, (By Telojrroph.—Pr»»3 Association.! Chrlstchurch, April 23. Speaking at the ceremony of unfurling tho flag at Springfield this afternoon tho Postmaster-General, tho Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes, announced tho return of tho Post and Telegraph rovenuo for the financial year, 1913-14. Tho returns, ho said, which had just been compiled, disclosed a very satisfactory position. The revenue from all branches totalled £1.269.102, exceeding tho estimates by £23,102, while- it also exceeded tho revenue of tho previous year by £102,008. Tho increase was a general one. r Each item of revenuo exceeded that of the previous year as the following particulars showed:—Postal stamps had increased by £47,982 telegrams bv £20,260; telephones by £30,953; postal miscellaneous by £2509; telegraph miscellaneous by £384; iotal increase, £102.088. The announcement was received with applause. Continuing, tho Postmaster-General said that the country was at present in o very prosperous state. Ho was also pleased to note the marked sitnia of prosperity in tho Springfield district, dospito the fact that the crops had suffered somewhat.
