The monthly meeting of the Hospital ond Charitahle Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon. Members of the board present were: The Hev. W, A. Evans (in the chair), Mrs. B. SPLaron, tho ltev. J. K. Elliot, Dr. Mackenzie; Messrs. H. Baldwin, D. Campbell, P. Castle, W. Galloway, B. ]'{. Gardener, D. M'Laren, F. T. Moore, J. W. M'Ewan, D. Robertson, and J. Smith. A special committee, reeentlj- set up, lecommended: (1) That tho report of tho medical superintendent, in reference to the establishment m a convalescent homo for children, he adopted: (2) that the minimum area, for the frame bo about fiyo acres; (3) that the question of fixing a site be held over. — Adopted. Mr. I''. T. Moore moved: "That the medical superintendent, Dr. Hardwick Smith, bo asked to report upon the therapeutic value of paraffin oil and the best method of obtaining a pure and abundant supply for general use by oil classes of the community at cost price." Dr. Mackenzie seconded tho motion which, after discussion, was lost. Tho health inspectors reported, that, j during ine montn ending April 0, sev- i enty-two cases of infectious diseases | hnd been investigated. These were as follow, tho figures for the corresponding period last year being given in pa-; rentheses:—l7 cases scarlet fever (-5); 4 cases diphtheria, (5); 12 cases tuberculosis, (13); i cases enteric fever (nil); 30 cases cliickenpox; 4 eases infantile paralysis; 1 case blood poisoning (1). There had been 22 cases of chicken-pox at Paraparaumu sines March 10. Tho cases had, with two exceptions, been' very mild. Most of two patients ivero : school children, and the adult patients were living in houses with school children. Tho numbers of patients admitted and discharged at Otaki .for the month of March was reported as follow: —Hospital: 13 admitted, 7 discharged: under treatment, 8 females and 9 males. Sanatorium: 9 admitted; 10 discharged;' under treatment, 15 males and 11 females. The Hospital Committee recommended: (1) That authority bo given for the following annual increments to sisters and senior nurses as from April .1: — Sisters, £70 to £100 by two annual increments of £10, and one of £5. Nurses, £50 to £C 5 to bo by one annual increase of £10 and one of £5. (2) That the resolution adopted by tho board at its meeting on October 23, li) 13, in reference to the out-patients' department has been enforced as from April 1, vis., that patients he divided into two classes (a) those who are able to pay a minimum fee (2s. Oct. fos' medicine), and (b)'those who are not able to pay any fee aro to be treated free of charge'. —Adopted. , Tho Charitable Aid Committee recommended that the Health Committee of the City Council be asked to confer with it in order to consider and arrange what best could be done towards a unified scheme in matters affecting public health. —Adopted. The Finance Committee recommended that a sum of £272 6s. be accepted from the Department' of Public Health in respect to tho conversion of the proposed matornitv v.ard into a ward".for the treatment of delirium tremens cases. —Adopted. In reference to the board's application for an additional subsidy on the Otaki Sanatorium tho Inspector-General wroto statine th.it tho matter was receiving consideration.
