THE NEW ACT
REGISTRATION BOARD APPOINTED
The Architects' Registration Board, a body constituted under tho Now Zealand Instituto of Architects Act, 1913, has just been set up. It consists of six members, three of them appointed by the Govemor-in-Council and three by tho Instituto of Architects. 'Die Government members are: Mr. James Hector M'Kay (of Cricliton and M'Kay), Wellington, Mr. George Goldshro.ugli, Auckland, and Mr. Basil Hooper, Dunedin. The members appointed by the instituto are: Mr. A. Atkins (of Atkins and Bacon), Wellington; Mr. S. Hurst-Seager, Clivistciiurch; and Mr. P. Y. Wales (of Mason and Wales),-Dunedin. The board is a temporary body, the Act providing that it shall ccase ;to exist on tho first meeting of the.council of tho institute. Meantime it will be the duty of the board to receive, consider, and detennino applications from persons desirous of being registered as members of the instituto. The first election of tho council, which is. to be tho permanent governing body of the institute, is to bo conducted "by the board as sooix as convenient after ■ April, 1915. Subsequent' elections of the council are to be held annually in the month of November. The council is to consist of: All pastpresidents of the registered institute, all past-presidents for tho. time .being of the institute, tho vice-presideilts of the institute for tho time being, and twelve persons to be elected annually by the members of the institute, three to represent tho Auckland district, three the Wellington district, three tho Canterbury district, two the Otago district, and one the Southland district. The council is empowered, at its discretion, to vary the number of representatives if a now district is at anytime created or if an existing district is altered. The general purposo of the New/Zealand Institute of Architects Act is to constitute a body corporate (the New Zealand Instituto of Architects); it also provides for the registration of persona qualified to practise as architects and fixes a fino'not exceeding £50 for any person who, not being a registered architect or a member of the institute, describes himself as such. The Act provides for the examination of persons desirous of . being , registered under the Act, and also provides for the recognition (without further examination) ot persons holding certificates or diplomas in architecture granted by any university college, or other public institution in Great "Britain, or Ireland, or m any British possession' or foreign country.. The Act also permits the registration of persons who, not being the holders of euch certificate or diplomas, have, in the opinion of the Registration Board, "attainod great in the profession of architecture.' . The first meeting of the Registration Board is to bo held at a time and placo to be determined by the Registrar-bon-eral,
