HONOURED

MEN WHO QUELLED THE ROUGHS. (By Telegraph.—Press ' Hamilton, April 16. Recognition of tho services rendered by tho farming community of Auckland Province during the November strike was made yesterday, when a gigantic picnic was held, at Ruakura State Farm. About 5000 persons were present, including 400 "specials." The Hon. W. F. Massey, the Hon. W. H. Herrios, and Mr. R. E. Bollard, M.P., were also among those present. Tho Prime Minister, in presenting the medals'provided by the Auckland Citizens' League, said tho Government took tho only stand possible against the lawlessness which was rife at the time of tho strike, and was fully appreciative of the great sacrifice made and excellent seryicos rendered by the farming community during those troublesome times.

_ Tho medals are of bronze, about the size of half a crown. They are raised in tho centro and are engraved on tho front with a horseman and tho words "Special Constabulary, Mounted," and on the back with tho Auckland City Arms and the words "Auckland, November, 1913." Each is engraved with tho name of tho recipient.

THEIR RESORT RAIDED. Chrlstchurch, April 16. Five men were charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day as the result of a gambling raid. Charles Glasson pleaded guilty to being found in a gaming house and was fined £3. The others — A; J. Morton, J. Muhlieson, H.' Grainger, and F. Duval—were remanded till Tuesday.

. . NAVAL LEAGUE. : ■ . •'• Dunediiv April 16. The annual report of the Naval League (Otago branch) shows an adult awl junior paid membership of 3221, which is the largest in the Dominion. Last year's income was £512. The president, the Hon. James Allen, will preside at the annual meeting on April 24.

LABOUR AND THE GENERAL ELECTION. ' ' Dunedin, April 16. At a meeting of the- Otago Labour Council to-night it was decided, after a fong discussion, that in the opinion, of the council it was desirablo to contest the four city seats in the Labour, interest at the General Election.
