When tho tramway was constructed it had been anticipated that a-shorter route via Sydney Street would presently he Hiado to tho city. After waiting seven years tho borough ratepayers had still te. travel round by Atolesworth Street-, and bo dissatisfied, had they become that a number of them had formed a private company, and wererunning motor buses in competition with the trams. The time saved fey travelling' via Kelburno would bo afiont seven minutes. A shorter route; via Hill Street, would save half a mile in tho distance run, awl would eliminate five or six stopping pianos.' This also would save about seven minutes. Tho Hill Street route would sare, in uiileago alone, enough money to pay for the cost of construction in three years, and would in the future prove tasting economy. For tho last seven years, continued the letter, Karori Had been tho largest customer for power which thecity had, and it still paid tho highest price for every service rendered by tho city. They had mad« representations to tho City Council, ami had received the same replies as tho borough had received. Councillor A. Hamilton: I would like to draw attention to one «sr two inascuracies in your letter to tho CityTho Mayor (laughingly): Yon had better net at present. Councillor Hamilton went on to state that according to Mr. Cathie's letter tho time saved on the route via KdIrarno would be sown minutes, and on the route via Hill Street would he about th<» same. The Mayor: I might sny, Councillor Hamilton,"that my letter is not for discussion. I merely brought it- up to have my action confirmed.
