ELECTRICAL POWER

REDUCTION IN PRICE. Consequent upon tho very successful financial year experienced by tho Electic Lighting and Power Department of the City Corporation, thcro is likely to bo a revision of tho charges for power which is at present rather costly for many overy-day purposes. At present a now Babcock boiler is being set in tho Mercer Street power-house in anticipation of tho coming of tho new Parson's turbine', expected to come to hand next month. When the new engine is in operation there will be a good safe margin over and above tho required night load, and a heavy margin over tho day load (when littlo power is used for lighting purposes). It is hoped that by roducing tho cost of electricity for power purposes substantially that a do'mand will be created sufficient to about equalise the day and night loads. Thoro is, we understand, no present intention of reducing tho price of current for lighting purposes, seeing. that it was lowered Id. per unit last year, but the electrical engineer (Mr. Stuart Richardson) is already at work on power prices to ascertain what reduction in the price is advisable to. induce more power business in tho daytime.

Tho condenser for tho new turbine arrived by the Remuera and will probably be installed within the next week.
