CARNIVAL COMMITTEE ENTERTAINED
Yesterday/evening tho Mayor and Mayoress entertained tho members of the Carnival Committee and tho stall assistants at » "social evening," which was held in the Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall. Dancing and a programme of elocutionary and musical items provided a thoroughly enjoyable evening's entertainment. Drapings of flags enclosed tho corridor outsido the chamber and red carpeting upon tho floor accentuated the cheerful noto of colour of the decorations. The stage of the Concert Chamber has seldom lookod so pretty as it did last evening. Quantities of flowering pot plants, roses, and other flowers banked the front por-
tion of it, and behind them were stands and tables with more flowers and with palms and foliage plants. Carpeted and furnished with easy chairs, it mado a comfortable resting-place for those who wished to watch other people in moro active enjoyment of tlio evening's entertainment. Supper was laid on tables placed at tho further end of tho corridor, and screened from view by draped curtains. The tables had been beautifully decorated with flowers, some with roses, others with sweet poas, and others, again, with salvias and scarlet cactus dahlias. Mr. and Mrs. Luke, with Miss Luke, received their guests on the landing. Mrs. Luke wore a gown of silver grey, trimmed with heavily worked embroideries, and a whito feather boa. Miss Luke was in a sholl-pink charmeuse gown, with jewelled trimming. Among

During tho evening, Miss Evans nlayod a pianoforte solo. Mr. G. W~. Fiby sung (Mr. Bernard Page playing his ■ accompaniment), Mr. 0. C. Mazengarb recited, Mr. A. K. Shorncy played, and Miss Harvey sung.
