Daylight Bill tliejj put in a.vijlerous^challenge, but the-'top-weight held his'own, and won by" half a length. Cornelian was close up fourth. . • ' In tho Autumn Nursery there was a nifjMip at the start, and Honesty, who raced in blinkers, camo down, giving Berry a bad shaking and interfering with, the favourite,'Fastradi. Findhorn were in front as tlloy raced on'-to tho 'proper;' Charmilla.; tKen' camo',very;Tv/asVoiv the. outside, and beat Bee by a very narrow margin. Mfidhorn was two lengths off and the others wore bunched.
In tho Yaldhurst Welter, . Obsono gave W. Bell a chance to show his ability as a horsenian, and- the :Awapiihi light-weight rbs,e,,to, the occasion. Sveaborg was two lengths'in front of Briar Patch, and Forest Belle and Obsono next, a furlong.from home: ObBonb then took tho lead and selling off a vigbroits challenge by Glenowl and Freo by half a length.. Taskmaster, Sveaborg and Briar Patch wero the next to:'.finish.
jfrc-ith Bronze and Expect were saddled the Great Autumn Handicap, Emporador and Ga'poii being • the ' lato scra.tehings. Tho bracket, had over four figilips on tho machine, as did Sea Pink. start Peg led off/ but-passing Cutfe's she was joined-by.-Warstep, Ladoga, and Flora Macdoiiald, and a fujrjg.ng further the i ',.'latter trio went outv-in front. The first half milo. was riH}"in 52sec., and at this juncture the field" was whipped by'Specialfofm'and Expect, while Bronze was jn ..the centre oir? : ;the rails. At the six furlongs, which took lmin. 18sec, the field was practically , in the sanio position," hut two furlongs later Bronze was in third place;. Sho then came out, and ran to theSfront as they- raced- into- the. straight. Sea Pink was*''also coming fast, but got checked, and Warstep, with .Flora Macdoiiald and Dadoga, each challenged, Bronze. The latter, stayed onjivell and beat the trio, who finished surprisingly 'well. Warstep was closo up'just* clear of S'pecialforni, and then camo Flora Macdonald, Sea Pink, Expect, 5 ; Thrax,Kooya, and Peg.,. . Slogan was a slightly better favourite than-Chrysotis in tho Addington Handicap, but both were easily beaten by Ra.i'jnont, who on his form to-day is likßly to see a better day. After going n furlonc; Sir Hamilton camo down, and Joan'fell over him. Slogan and Bonne Boiiche led into tho straight, but then Rayniont camo fast, and though Modditd.'put in a good run, ho could not reach the Boniform gelding. Chrysotis was-fourth. - .
Tjh'p Challenge Stakes proved a triumph for tho older horses, and the two-year-olds were badly defeated,' which would makdflit'Bppoar .tlittii there is not a Ifii'st-class youngster out this year. Hyettus led by 'two lengths to tho straight entrance, when Pariform momentarily took charge, but then Emperador got through on the fence, and Autumnus came fast on- tho.outsido. In-*■ stirring finish Emperador prevailed by a head, with Rinaklo third. Autumnus was a bit unlucky in having to cover some extra ground round the turn.:
Only First Glance and Sauci were barked for the Temnleton Hamlican, and they ran, first and second. Ciiudio was.,the first off, arid led to tho turn, with. First Glance whipping tho field, but at the straight proper, tho favourite slipped Tip on* the'inside and soon had the others in difficulties. Sauc'i finished on well and beat Chudic.
Bertrada was a good favourite in tho concluding event, and she scored handily from Canute, who did not get the nest of runs. Sunbeam was a fair third, andtGapoh nnd Glenfinnan were next. THE RESULTS. FEILDING JOCKEY CLUB
SECOND DAY. GUIDLNG WAY WINS THE BIG >'■ HANDICAP. (3x Tolegraph.-Spccial Keporter.l . Follrilng, April 14. ' While not so big , as on the opening day tno attendance at tho leilding. Jockey Club's mooting was again very' large to-day, and speculation on tne totalisator was spirited. Tho Bum of £24,252 was handled during the afternoon,- making a. total of £54,859 for the two' days, an increase of over £12,0111) on last year's figures. Showers fell at intervals, but did not atfect the day's sport, which proved interesting from first to last, and was merked by several close finishes. A feature of tho racing was the fast time recorded by St. Gate in the Hack Hurdles; i lues of £2 each were imposed on "P. 0. Porter nnd H. Richards for misbehaviour at tho post in the first race.
John Willie and Sir Donald 'were withdrawn from the Awahuri Hack Welter, for which Raupani (Multifid — Tauheij was Blade a warm favourite. He, ■however, again disappointed his backers, and could do no better than finish third. Vladineau led to tho straight, when Combustion took charge. Tho latter looked all over a winner until the half-distance, whero Victoris canio along with a rush, and in a good finish, won by three part 6 of a length from Combustion, who was two lengths ahead of llaupaui. Vladineau was fourth, Grey Guard .fifth, and Sir Fisher sixth.
In a field of seven, Ineuru was made a slightly better favourite than Altcar, while.LadyLouisa was also in good , demand,. liieuru was actually the quickest to begin, but Nodder steadied the Maniapoto mare, and let her run along in a good position on tho rails, behind Gladiole and Altcar. Gladiolo was done with before the home turn was reached, and Epworth led iiito the straight, closely attended by Altcar, Lady Louisa, and Ineuru. Nearing the distance, Ineuru was pulled on to tho outside, and fishing in great style, she won by a neqk from Lady Louisa, who was a neck in front of Altcar. Tho next to finish was Epworth, who was followed by Gladiole and Smiiax; Glenfern having occupied the rear position from the start until the finish. . , .
All the acceptors went to the post for tho Kimbolton Hurdles, Huia, the first day's winner, being a better favourite- than Aurake, tho two carrying more than half tho investments on tho machine. As on the first day, Timothy set out to niako the pace, and passing the stand his nearest attendants wore Aruake, Jackinan, and Huia. Fivo furlongs from homo Timothy was done with, and Huia rushed to the front. Jackman and Aruako were troubling him tho whole time, however, and when the straight was fairly entered Jackman took charge, qnd going right away won easily by four lengths from Aruako, who took Huia by surpriso in tho last hundred yards, and beat him for second placo by » long nock. Kurnalpi was fourth, followed by Ibhar and Timothy. Of tho- eleven starters in tho Hack Hurdles, St. Gate and Crocus wcro tho favourites, and hero backers had correctly summed up tho situation, for the horses named finished first and second, St. Gate being in front throughout tho journey. Tho Diver appeared to have a clmnco at ono stage, but in tho straight lie tired badly, and was beaten into third place. Florist was fourth, and Oknhu fifth. Stockade, the first day's winner, niado a very poor showing. Birkliiie, who went slightly amiss after tho Cup raco on Monday, was withdrawn from tho Easter Handicap. This left six runners. As the two horses who had finished immediately behind Manawakaha were not opposing him, backers seemed to think the Gor-
don Rouge gelding should win again, and, consequently, ho was installed a better favourite than Inmier and Guiding Way. Shrewd judges, however, wero of opinion that Guiding Way had benefited by the gaWan in the Clip, and they would not hear ow Ws defeat. Ho certainly looked in gNi»fc heart, and as soon as tho tapes wero released ho set out with Immer to inako the paco. Passing tho stnnd tho order was Inuner, Guiding Way, Lady Laddo, Moutoa Girl, Otahu, and Mahawakaha. Tho lastnamed never improved, and finished last. Tho order of tho others was much tho samo until three furlongs from homo, where tho field bunched up. Immor tired at tho straight entrance, whero Guiding Way and Moutoa Girl drew out. Moutoa Girl was in front at the distance, but Guiding Way battled' out tho finish gamely, and won decisively by a long neck from Moutoa Girl, who was half a length in front of Otahu. Immor was fourth, and Ladv Laddo fifth. .
Victoris, who had won the opening race, carried a 101b. penalty in the BowaHack Handicap, and brought abont tho defeat of a good favourite in Martingale. After a great finish tho other two starters were well beaten.
The biggest return of tho day. was recorded in tho Maiden Scurrv, when Miralina (The Officer—Mariuella) galloped in five lengths ahead of the field. Rosajys was first to show out, while Whito Plume was left some lengths. Miralma headed Rosalys after half the distance had been covered, and going on won by five lengths from Patronata, who was two lengths ahead of Rangiwhotu. Then camo Move On, Itosalys, and Reconnoitre The favourite was Toira, half-sister to Ineuru, but shenever showed up, and evidently did not relish the weight (9st.) Monologue and Tetikura were' both heavily backed in the last raco, tho former being tho actual favourite when tho machine closed down. It was a capital race. Grattan and Alecto carried on .the running to the homo'turn, whero Tetikura took charge, but was unable ; to withstand a challenge from Monologue, who won by a neck. Lady Volga was) a length away third, and Alecto fourth. J..O'Shea, who rode the wanner, finished with one- foot out of the stirrup-iron.
